The Indian army said it had destroyed four Pakistani military posts on Saturday along its contested border, the latest escalation of tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

The attack comes a day after India and Pakistan traded accusations that each had killed civilians in cross-border shelling in the Kashmir region, which is claimed in its entirety by both countries but controlled in part by each.

"Four Pak posts destroyed in massive fire assault in Keran Sector. Heavy casualties inflicted," the Indian army's Northern Command said in a statement on its Twitter account late on Saturday.

The Indian army gave no further details of the assault, but an officer, who asked that his name not be used, confirmed that troops on both sides had been exchanging mortar fire in and around an area known as the Keran sector since Saturday morning.

I can imagine that the US is stepping on thin ice right now since we have political ties with Pakistan, and are still trying (I dont know if we are now) to set up stronger relations with india.

I'm more concerned about Russian/Chinese relations in this contest. Russia has endorsed pakistan as it's favorite and China has obvious reasons to be interested in the regional conflict. Does anyone know more what their reactions to a full blown war in that part of the world will be?

Can't let things get too quiet now, can we?
Indian shelling across the frontier into Pakistani-controlled Kashmir hit a bus, killing at least nine people and wounding 11, Pakistani officials said, as tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors simmers.

That area, like Korea, is a ginormous pain in the neck. Something is going to happen there with very little warning.
