New article. #Russia Internet-cable spy ship #Yantar in Americas. Unusually, she seems to be turning her AIS off. Has been at sea over a month but journey would only require 2 weeks sailing. https://t.co/7m186ulNZO

🇷🇺 #Russia|n Navy oceanographic research vessel (#AGOR) #Yantar|#Янтарь (MMSI:273546520|CS:RMM91), last seen in Murmansk 🇷🇺 in early October, turned their AIS-S transponder back on 2019-11-06, near Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹.

After a brief stop outside territorial waters, Yantar proceeded to the Port of Spain TT anchorage where they took on fuel from a Panamanian-flagged ship, Lorena B (IMO:9438212), which has been bunkering (refuelling) ships from Pointe-a-Pierre lately. https://t.co/LLnycfq6Cz

Of note to #Venezuela 🇻🇪 watchers, Vanuatu-flagged Midnight Stone (IMO:8123303), one of the ships contracted by the U.S. Gov't to stage an alleged delivery of aid from Puerto Rico to Venezuela in early 2019, was closest to Yantar, and has been moored there for over a month.

You may have already put together that Yantar is a Swiss Army knife of a ship, and deployed at the same time as that alleged Russian Navy submarine exercise in the Atlantic;
ie, now.

I've been documenting Yantar's trips, and am most interested in what we can tease out of their patterns of movement. I've found their trip in 2015 "near" the US very interesting, as well as their Summer 2016 stops over known submarine wrecks and...

Spotting Yantar's movement has become somewhat of an international sport, and I'm very thankful for the help from @shtatsky_ru and @nat_ahoy, as well as @7fbtk and @RussianNavyBlog back in the day, who really are to blame, I mean credit, for my interest.

Russian Navy AGOR, R/V Yantar, over the crash site of the RuAF Su-30 which crashed off the coast of Syria, presumably looking for the remains of the pilots, and radio/crypto gear.

#Yantar hasn't been visible on open sources until suddenly appearing in the Caribbean
That she appeared so suddenly is unusual.
#Yantar has gained attention in the past for hovering in the vicinity of the undersea #SCC Cables which connect the world.
