So i'm not saying anything is going to happen here, at all, hopefully I really hope nothing does, but #Iran|ian Vessels are sitting very close to #British vessels at the moment in several areas of the Gulf. https://t.co/oDBIURqRBg

Red is the British Vessel, blue is the Iranian vessels which have been following her path for several hours. This area yesterday was empty of Iranian vessels. Feels like a form of Harassment. https://t.co/5C0kiL1PRF

Police in Gibraltar have arrested the captain and chief officer of the supertanker Grace 1 on suspicion of breaching EU sanctions on Syria, a spokesman for the Royal Gibraltar Police confirmed on Thursday.
The two men, both Indian nationals, were arrested on Thursday afternoon and have been interviewed under caution by police and Customs officers.
Both men have been granted access to legal and consular representation.
Neither has been charged at this stage and investigations continue.
The RGP said the arrests followed "…a protracted search of the vessel where documents and electronic devices have been seized and examined."
Both men were arrested in relation to suspected breaches of European Union Regulations 36/2012 concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Syria, the RGP said in a statement.

OSNIT source about this subject
🇬🇧 British-flagged oil tanker British Heritage (IMO:9682980|MMSI:235108538) arrived in the Persian bulf and was reported to be sheltering near Saudi by Bloomberg a few days ago (commit this image to your memory)

https://t.co/rIp4SMkCwR https://t.co/kzy5okDemj

Here is the same Bloomberg image, a-la-Stef, using the https://t.co/WIVCJcfBJl interface. The Bloomberg picture was up to date the morning they published their article, on July 8th. https://t.co/YB2nVDpm46

Late on 2019-07-09Z British Heritage started to move, and as best as I can see, turned off their AIS transponder; I assume to try and "sneak" out of the Persian Gulf.
I don't know who told them that was a good idea, but it's a terrible idea.
No oil tanker has ever snuck anywhere. https://t.co/r5GKY0oozM

🇬🇧 British-flagged oil tanker British Heritage (IMO:9682980|MMSI:235108538) could have been in a congested AIS-S location, where it takes a little while for their position to update.

They could have been too far from shore for AIS-T.

They could not have been both for 23hrs. https://t.co/rwWuxZ36Gt

🇬🇧 British-flagged oil tanker British Heritage came back on AIS at 2019-07-10 16:07Z, and continued through the Strait of Hormuz, with an uneventful passage... but what about the Gunboats? What happened to the valiant Royal Navy who put themselves between them, and the gunboats? https://t.co/LDKAC7Jzex

Let's add them to the map!

🇬🇧 Royal Navy frigate HMS Montrose #F236 appeared on AIS at 12:39Z heading SW (they had AIS off before)
14:44Z: Increased to 25kn, ~top speed.
15:43Z: likely turned toward the Iranian gunboats and tanker.
15:54Z: they were likely between the vessels. https://t.co/GVJWRwfwl5

Conclusions? The "incident" was brewing for hours before HMS Montrose arrived. It looks like they were making a bee line for the tanker from the front, they were not tailing the tanker.

🇬🇧 Royal Navy frigate HMS Montrose #F236 and British-flagged oil tanker British Heritage departed together from that point on.

I hope this significantly improves everyone's understanding of what went on, without much help from the #RoyalNavy or #USNavy PA departments. https://t.co/XbvYsTqug4

Nah. Just the off button. I suspect someone with poor maritime situational awareness advised them to turn off their transponder and make a run for the Strait of Hormuz, which just makes them a giant target without a transponder - highly suspicious to any Navy, including Iran's.
