The same logic then would apply to Russia using Bears to approach our coast. Messages don’t necessarily have to be strategically sound. There are two separate desired results between messaging and strategic.
Not the same message at all. Russia's Bears approach the coast then turn around and head back home. Our B-52s have been deployed.
You may be correct on that but the message I was alluding to was for Europe not Russia. Pre positioning bombers and rapid deploy of armor to mollify Merkals complant that we weren’t “trusted” by NATO.
Means nothing to Putin but Merkel has has to live with reality we can will and did deploy quickly, albeit token moves, for European public.
Fair 'nuff.

In response, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other heads of NATO states have said that the US was no longer a totally reliable partner and the alliance should be prepared to fend for itself.
The problem is, she's right.
Hell no she is not. The US would stupidly help that ungrateful C word and her country if they were attacked by Russia.

Please please please get our Troops out of Germany and the rest of the EU wussy nations. Germany would fall in a day if it was attacked by Poland let alone Russia lol. Let Merkel suck on it. We have plenty of real ALLIES that we can always depend on as they can always depend on us.

Why we think we need to be in Germany anymore is beyond stupid. Most Germans are arrogant jerks anyhow. Let them fight for their own beloved fatherland and eat it when Russia stomps their you know what in the dirt..

Florida has a larger air force than Germany lol. Let Germany and France go by the way of history and see how they like it when they have to fend for themselves. How soon France forgets us saving their asses. Let them and Turkey get all cozy and before you know it they will all be waving the Islamic flag.

Only a Christian revival in France will save them, their military is deeply loyal to the US but their Socialist government rarely is and Macron should have been punched in the face for talking to Trump the way he did.

Note in Airborn of current B-52 flights in Europe specifically Kalengrad. There were multiple flights of B-52 over Eastern Europe. Six Buffaloes have been relocated to England.
Also B-52 flights in east by Japan.

Is this message for Merkel, NATO, or Putin.
Not sure. Why use B-52s to send a message? In any modern Russia/NATO nuclear scenario, the B-52s would be sent to their positive-control points, not into Russia. They'd never make it through Russian air defenses. Their mission would be mopping up any tertiary targets left over after the missiles have all been fired. We know that. Putin knows that. Merkel knows that. NATO knows that.

Now deploying B-2s? THAT would send a message.
Most of us here have seen that message sent as it happened a few years ago. Definitely got us puckered up, seeing all those bombers heading north, that's for sure. Likely it was over Russia moving nuclear tipped SS-20 Stone missiles to Kaliningrad.

B-2s and other classified aircraft we don't know about but that I do know exist will be in the first strike package if we ever decide to hit before they decide too. It will be a decapitation strike and hopefully take out the dreaded dead hand system they have. Missiles would be next if the Bombers were not enough and the second they launched our B-52s would be leaving their runways.

B-52s don't enter Russia willy nilly, they fight their way in using nuclear AGM-86 cruise missiles from a long way out, clearing a path to then deploy either a lot more B-61's or heavy B-83 gravity nukes over hardened targets deep inside Russia while avoiding the nuclear blast zones from other weapons.
