Apparently in the 1950s Britain came up with a nuclear mine that could be buried and left behind in the event of a retreat from advancing Soviet troops. The mine would contain a 10 kt warhead that would be detonated under Soviet troops or forward operating bases. Basically a nuclear AA/AD device. One of the arming methods involved using a live chicken inside the mine.
