North Korea said Wednesday it is canceling high-level talks with South Korea and threatened to pull out of a summit with the United States over the allies' ongoing military exercises.
The North's Korean Central News Agency said the Max Thunder drills between the South Korean and U.S. air forces are a rehearsal for invasion of the North and a provocation amid warming inter-Korean ties.

It also called into question whether next month's summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump can go ahead as planned
The North Korean state news agency accused Seoul and Washington of carrying out large-scale air drills against Pyongyang before the "ink on the declaration had a chance to dry."

South Korea and the U.S. will be making a serious mistake if they believe they can get away with their "war rehearsals" in light of the North's recent efforts to improve relations with the South and hold talks with the U.S., it warned.

"There is a limit to the amount of good will and opportunity (we) can give," the report said. "We will be keenly watching the future behavior of the U.S. and South Korean authorities."

Seoul's unification ministry said it was informed of the meeting's "indefinite postponement" at 0:30 a.m., in a notice sent by Ri Son-kwon, chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country, a North Korean agency in charge of inter-Korean exchange.

Not good.. if they cancel the summit we'll likely go back to square one, and military action will probably become a real possibility again.

Called it. I mean really guys? Ik hope for the best, but no one plans for the worse.

You really think we would or could start moving McDonald's and banks to DPRK in our near future your crazy.

Only thing in DPRKs future is a change of leadership or their destruction. Just say get on with it already.

At least most of north Korea's technology is shit, we could be able to hit them with a emp and destroy them.

I don't think so

This isn't square one, we did get some hostages out and we haven't let up the pressure from those sanctions, sanctions that arguably got us this far in the first place so unless NK found away to mitigate them, they're still doing their job. Which means if we call his bluff and he doesn't capitulate the position, it might just be postponing the talks.

It is not as if NK gains nothing by making these threats. It can take off one of the US/SKor negotiation assets before negotiations start and it also let's Nkor measure how important these talks are to us and to the republicans giving election season is coming... again... so it's obvious this threat was coming.

It's to soon to say that military actions will the only real possibility.

Exactly. It's a classic NK negotiating technique. Make grand gestures, with a chance of a diplomatic breakthrough, then threaten to pull out to get more concessions. He's trying to test Trump to see how much he's willing to concede to score a political victory.

Did not North Korea not only gain time? It's worth remembering that the CIA figured it was months before the re-entry vehicle was ready. With these months of negotiation, photos and smiles on the border, it may have been completed.

I'm surprised that the US continued with drills in the area. Right now, it reads as if the US is being aggressive. If NK cancels the meeting, it can be seen as a response to US unreasonableness.

To borrow a phrase from Crimson Tide, NK has a serious weed up its butt and a legitimate gripe.

I posted this on my Twitter last night but I figured it deserved a spot here too. "At this point I think North Korea could demand anything from either the U.S. or South Korea and they would end up doing whatever demanded without hesitation just to keep the summit on the table." For example, yesterday, NK didn't like the thought of the B-52s being so close to them (even though a pair just flew a Korean Peninsula mission the other week  ), and yes they condemned the exercise itself too, but mostly the B-52s, so the U.S. and South Korea called them off for this exercise, not to say they won't make a surprise appearance that North Korea will likely never know about considering their radar technology is utter shit... wonder what the next demand will be?

After North Korea suddenly canceled a meeting with South Korea and threatened to pull out of a summit with President Trump next month, reporters asked Mr. Trump if North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is bluffing.

“We’ll have to see, we’ll have to see,” Mr. Trump said Wednesday during a White House meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Mr. Trump was asked several questions about North Korea, to which he repeatedly said, “We’ll have to see.”

“We haven’t seen anything, we haven’t heard anything, we will see what happens. Whatever it is— it is,” Mr. Trump said.
