The ceasefire – introduced on 16 May – prohibited Indian security forces from initiating action against militants in the state during the month of Ramadan. In separate incidents in Kashmir on 14 June, an Indian Army soldier reportedly abducted by suspected militants was found dead in Shopian district and a veteran Kashmiri journalist was shot dead by suspected militants in Srinagar
