China's new defense minister says his visit to Russia is a signal to the United States about the increasingly close military ties between Moscow and Beijing. The unusually bold statement on Tuesday by Gen. Wei Fenghe reflected the growing military cooperation between the two former Communist rivals.Speaking in Moscow at the start of his talks with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Wei emphasized that he chose Russia for his first trip abroad since becoming the international face of China's military last month to "show the world a high level of development of our bilateral relations and firm determination of our armed forces to strengthen strategic cooperation."
Wei added he would attend Wednesday's security conference hosted by the Russian Defense Ministry to "let the Americans know about the close ties between the armed forces of China and Russia."
Shoigu said Wei's visit "underlines a special character of relations between Russia and China," adding that it will help further deepen ties between the two militaries.

Shanghai September crude oil futures rose 3 percent by the midday break on Friday as investors placed bullish bets following reports that China is mulling steps to purchase crude in yuan.

China's tax rebate plan will help support oil demand. Reports that China will pay for oil in yuan will also benefit the crude futures market," Wang Xiao, head of research with Guotai Junan Futures, said in a note on Friday, adding that the gain in Shanghai crude had outpaced the gain in Brent and WTI.

A little bit actually. Russia and China did not get along during the Cold War. To see them cooperate is a change. Russia, however, may not see that China is just using them.

Yep, it's about as surprising as someone from the early part of the 20th century seeing how closely France and Germany are cooperating nowadays.

Imo a gas pipeline between the two was a good heads up . Let alone russia allowing chinese occupied farming land over the border on russian land which upset a few russians citizens. The co-op between the two has been there a while if you don't live in the past for to long.

China on Thursday warned Russian oil firm Rosneft and Vietnam against conducting oil exploration in the disputed South China Sea, also claimed by Beijing, without Chinese government permission, saying any such move would affect bilateral ties, regional peace and stability.
noted the report," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said here while responding to a question about reports that Rosneft Vietnam BV - a unit of Russian state oil firm Rosneft - was drilling oil in an area of the South China Sea(SCS) also claimed by China.
The report said Rosneft Vietnam BV is drilling at LD-3P well about 370 kms from Vietnam which reportedly is located "within the area outlined by China's nine-dash line" of the SCS.
Lu said, "I would like reiterate that any country, organisation, enterprise or individual should not conduct exploration or development activities in waters in China's jurisdiction without the permission of the Chinese government".
"We urge the relevant parties to respect China's sovereign rights, interests and jurisdiction and stop doing things that affect bilateral relations, regional peace and stability," he said.

Hell, it's still kinda surprises me. Also kinda saddens me, I mean now we have to leave the traditional sacking or Paris to disgruntle french citizens and soccer fans.
