How, exactly, does a STEALTH plane "disappear" from radar? I thought it disappearing from radar was the whole point?

I would assume they lost communications with the aircraft, and the radar part is media influenced. The F-35 isn't completely stealthy so it is possible that it was on radar until whatever happened.

any reports what happened yet? early reports of engine failure or some kind of explosion or anything yet?

Edit: Also does anyone know if it was near or around claimed Chinese/russian waters. I know it says northern japan and the pacific but their are islands the Chinese and Russians both have claimed.

I have a far fetched (Tinfoil but maybe not so much) theory. We advertise the F-35 Lightening as one of, if not THE best fighter in the world (at least within the 5th Generation) as China has the J-20 and Russia has the SU-57. Maybe the Japanese aircraft got too close to Russian or Chinese territory (or claimed territory), and Russia or China just decided it was time to show us up. Even though it was Japanese it was an American Aircraft. If you ask me the best way to show up a country is not to attack that country, but to attack its aircraft, hardware, vehicles, etc through its allies.

Like I said, far fetched and very tinfoily but I think its possible and that's how id get things done when testing out new technology.

It's sad the pilot didn't eject... Otherwise, they would immediately spotted the coordinates of the accident according to his beacon.
