Syria is nothing. US isn't going to war over Syria.

No, not over Syria itself. But I think something bigger could spark accidentally due to a plane being shot down or a Navy ship being rammed, etc.

Am I alone in thinking that Syria is now just one more proxy war between superpowers? We have a long history of them.

You're not alone. I'm not sure what strategic interest Russia has in Syria, other than a foothold in an area heavy in oil, port access, and "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" mentality.

Russia is making a large mistake, however. Syria, as I have said before, is not their friend. Syria is using Russia and will turn on them when the time is right. Especially if a more radical leader takes control of the country.

I agree. Russia and the US have shown time and again that they don't want the Syria situation to lead to a direct superpower confrontation. I feel the chances, while not zero, are pretty low that the Syria situation will lead to a confrontation.
