"The submarine’s crew launched torpedoes against a group of ships comprising the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Pyotr Veliky and the large antisubmarine warfare ships Severomorsk and Vice-Admiral Kulakov," the press office said.

According to the press office, the exercise was successful and all surface targets were notionally destroyed.

"During all stages of the exercise, the crew of the submarine Obninsk showed high skills and cohesion," the press office said.

The crew members also practiced underwater maneuvering and improved their skills in avoiding the pursuit.

The Project 671RTMK submarine is a second-generation nuclear-powered submarine but it has come closer to third-generation submarines due to its upgrade. The Project 671RTMK nuclear-powered attack submarine is armed with two 650mm and four 533mm torpedo tubes with a total of 24 torpedoes. According to data of several sources, the Project 671RTMK nuclear-powered attack submarine Obninsk checked its weapons and launched a cruise missile of the Kalibr (SS-N-27 Sizzler) missile system in the Barents Sea in December 2014.
