Is the battle for Mosul really a decisive moment, or just an administration check box? Lots of post on Twitter on this one, but I didn't see a thread.

Liberating Mosul will be a big morale boost for the forces opposing ISIS, and from a logistical standpoint it will push ISIS to basically only being able to effectively project control over parts of Syria. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if ISIS razes the city before they let the Iraqi troops take it.

ISIS alrrady fled went to raqqa already because the offensive was announced two weeks ago. It unlikely to be as decisive as planned

It seems to me this could get dicey :
Massive Turkish army Deployment near the Iraqi- Turkish border
+
#iraqi army ordered to consider Turkish army in Iraq as enemy,it will clash with it if they prevent liberation of Mosul
+
Erdogan says 'out of question' for Turkey to stay out of Mosul operation
=
really bad

Turkey considers Mosul to be in it's "Traditional sphere of control"

If the reaches of the Turkish Empire are considered its "Traditional sphere of control," then we have more to worry about than just Mosul.
