U.S. Joins Turkish Forces to Launch Push Against Islamic State in Syria

Turkish and American military forces launched a major offensive in northwestern Syria against Islamic State fighters early Wednesday as they try to sever the extremist group’s vital supply routes, the Turkish government announced.

Turkish special forces, aided by U.S.-coalition warplanes and Turkish artillery units, moved into northern Syria before dawn as part of the coordinated campaign to push Islamic State off the border, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency.

Turkish military sources said a ground incursion has yet to start, but a group of Turkish special forces had entered Syria while Turkish and US-led coalition jets hit four DAESH targets and Turkish artillery struck more than 60 targets.

If i'm not mistaken Russia has said two things:

1) If ground troops from any nation enter Syria without Damascus' permission, it will be a declaration of war." AND;

2) The Americans - the American President and our Arab partners - have to ask themselves if they want permanent war."

I know i seen it somewhere just can't find it now

Turkey has been in Syria multiple times since the start of the conflict. If it's a red line, then it's not a very well defined one.

Looks like it's going on on CNN Turk. (Official channel easily found on Youtube.) However, I don't speak Turkish so can't confirm. A few feeds on twitter are showing tanks. Trying to confirm that they were taken today.

Yeah I think they have been in on the ground before, though it was a little under the radar. There was a thread in here a while back - they went about 10kms in from the border and secured a couple of towns as well as supply routes.

They also did the old trick of 'moving the border' a few times and had a creeping barbed wire fence.

Hrm weird, I get an error on that - "An error occurred during validation."
