What I think has has happened is that Turkey asked, via back channels, the US to hand over the cleric that was "responsible" for the coup. The US has said "no", and this happened as a result....

I am sure there would be some a willing expeditionary force of Marines that would like to help with force protection in that area.

...this has taken a turn for the interesting. Still, not good. Really wish I wasn't still on vacation so I could examine this in more detail.

When it comes down to it, it looks to me that NATO will have to step in and either side with US or Turkey, but I kind of know how that will play out. NATO has massive resources there and need to protect those assets. Could we see a mobilization of NATO forces into Turkey?
