A high-ranking North Korean official who previously oversaw relations with the U.S. issued a statement on Thursday expressing hope that Washington and Pyongyang could restart their long-stalled diplomatic dialogue — and warned of “shocking punishment” if the U.S. goes through with a “hostile provocation” against the North.

In his remarks, published by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Yong Chol appeared to be responding to comments on Wednesday by the U.S. defense secretary, Mark Esper, that Washington may decide to “adjust” its long-planned military drills in order to help spur diplomacy on with the North — and urged the American defense chief to stand by his word.

“I took note of the remark made by the U.S. secretary of Defense Mark Esper on Nov. 13 that he would adjust the U.S.-south Korea joint military drill for the progress of the DPRK-U.S. negotiations,” Kim Yong Chol said, according to KCNA.

“As the remark of the U.S. secretary of Defense was made just after the announcement of the statement of the spokesperson for the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK, I would like to understand it as the U.S. intention to drop out of the joint military drill or completely stop it.

With the Trump impeachment hearings going on and Thanksgiving and year-end holidays just around the corner, Pyongyang is ramping up pressure and setting the stage for blaming the U.S. for the next big provocation — an ICBM or thermonuclear test in space — to come.”

In North Korean politics,” he added, “nothing is ever improvised.”

That...would be a serious event. Especially the nuke in space. Doubt that one though. But an ICBM test...

The US is absolutely in a weakened position now with the government in chaos thanks to impeachment.

The US and South Korea have postponed a joint military exercise, in an effort to help diplomatic efforts aimed at convincing North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons programme.

Speaking in Thailand on Sunday, Mark Esper, US defence secretary, said Washington and Seoul had decided to delay the joint air force exercise — known as the “Combined Flying Training Event” — that had been scheduled to start on Monday.

Just more stalling by NK to develop their nuclear triad. Trump should have went all in after their SLBM test or sunk the sub after it shot it off, as that is the most dangerous tool this nut can have.

The deep state goons are loving this. Trump needs to ignore this joke of a Congress and just do what is necessary. Show rocketman that unless he gives them up his country will burn to death. Fly a few B-2s in and drop dummies right on top of his palace. Maybe he will get the hint then, after his Air Force never seen them coming.

North Korean Foreign Ministry adviser Kim Kye Gwan reiterated his government’s stance that Washington must discard what North Korea sees as “hostile” policies to keep the negotiations alive.

“Three rounds of DPRK-U.S. summit meetings and talks were held since June last year, but no particular improvement has been achieved in the DPRK-U.S. relations ... the U.S. only seeks to earn time, pretending it has made progress in settling the issue of the Korean Peninsula,” he said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency, referring to North Korea by the initials of its formal name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

“We are no longer interested in such talks that bring nothing to us. As we have got nothing in return, we will no longer gift the U.S. president with something he can boast of, but get compensation for the successes that President Trump is proud of as his administrative achievements.”

NK has no reason to negotiate as long as the US remains in the weak position it is, and that weak position is a President under siege from a hostile opposition bent on stopping him and removing him.

I say that regardless of whether you think the president should be removed or not. The bottom line is, when it comes to actors like North Korea, Iran, or Russia, what is happening in the US is making the US unable to be in any negotiating position.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has supervised an airborne landing training, emphasizing the need to improve the country's war preparedness, Pyongyang's official news agency said Monday.

Kim's "field guidance" was reported a day after South Korea and the United States decided to put off their wartime air exercises to encourage North Korea to return to the negotiation table for its denuclearization.
