E-7 is the Australian Wedgetail AWACS system, built on a 737 platform. RoKAF bought 4 a while back. The MESA radar set is a AESA set that is able to see ground as well as air and sea targets, with all the usual bells and whistles that an AEW&C platform has these days.
It means it's racetracking probably south of the DMZ, or at least out of missile range somewhere, and they're tracking whatever is on the move in and around the theatre. Probably pretty routine, unless they're seeing a great deal of traffic. By definition, given the dearth of large amounts of civil air and ground traffic in kimmies dictatorial paradise, large numbers of tracks on the move air and ground are military. It'll give the usual bearing-heading-range-speed, altitude and IFF interrogation; these types of sets can track and classify thousands of targets. The SAR-synthetic aperture- sets have eyesight good enough to tell you what you are looking at from a skin paint. Same basic system carried on JSTARS and Global Hawk. You can actually get a radar photograph of an object with these things.
Sometimes, the only rational choice is a head shot.

Thanks very much Upshot. So Australia is now over in NK as well helping to keep an eye on things. Can't blame them since they were recently threatened.

N Korea Plans to Pacify US, Vows to Respond to Fire With Fire - Foreign Ministry

As tensions over North Korea's nuclear program keep mounting, the North Korean foreign ministry said that Pyongyang won't hold talks on its nuclear weapons and added that the Americans would have to put up with the DPRK's nuclear status.
Pyongyang possesses nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles but will use them only in case of the threat to the country, according to the ministry.

Any attempt to strangle #DPRK through #UN sanctions will be regarded as an attempt to “declare war,” he adds.

This report first was published on NK News, and has since been followed up by a selected number of media sources, many of them international. Very limited publication in U.S. media that I see.

CIA director says North Korea “months” away from ability to strike U.S.
https://www.nknews.org/2017/10/cia-dire ... trike-u-s/
This report includes the following excerpt: "Pyongyang will have developed the ability to strike the United States with a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) within months, CIA director Mike Pompeo said on Thursday. Speaking at an event hosted by the Foundation for Defence of Democracies, Pompeo said that Washington should act on the assumption that North Korea’s nuclear program was close to completion. “They are close enough now in their capabilities that from a U.S. policy perspective we ought to behave as if we are on the cusp of them achieving,” he said. “We are not out of time… But we are running out of time.”
U.S. intelligence on the progress of Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile development was imprecise, he stipulated, saying that “when you’re now talking about months, our capacity to understand that at a detailed level is in some sense irrelevant.” "

BBC published this as "CIA chief: North Korea 'on cusp' of nuclear capability," including the following excerpt: "North Korea is "close enough now in their capabilities that from a US policy perspective we ought to behave as if we are on the cusp of them achieving that objective," Mr Pompeo said at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a conservative Washington think tank, on Thursday. "They are so far along in that, it's now a matter of thinking about how do you stop the final step." He warned Pyongyang's missile expertise was now advancing so quickly that it was hard for US intelligence to be sure when it would succeed. "When you're now talking about months our capacity to understand that at a detailed level is in some sense irrelevant," he said."

CBS reported this as: "Pompeo warns of North Korea's nuclear advances"
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pompeo-war ... -advances/

AP wire reports were picked up here and there. Chicago Tribune and Detroit News had it as a prominent story. Washington Post buried it. CNN addressed as part of a "North Korea Mash up" story, which continues to change, but the latest headline is now "US preparing for North Korea's 'final step'." Washington Examiner published as "North Korea 'months' away from capability to nuke US, CIA Director Mike Pompeo says."

I find it just astounding that this is not the lead headline in the U.S. news and those concerned about national defense.
The idea that there is so little interest and discussion in such a story is deeply troubling.
