Re: 4 Wars in Mideast With No World Concern Similiar to 1914

I don't know if this logic is what's driving any of the external actors, but if a mideast theatre sunni-shia war really has been deemed inevitable, then it could stand to reason that the best course of action is to let it happen, preferably with the fewest possible nuclear capable states involved, t...

Re: German Tanks Roll Into Poland, Russia Issues Warning

On a related note, I just came across this: http://www.military.com/daily-news/2015/06/15/secretary-says-air-force-could-send-f22s-to-europe-to-counter.html I was aware of A10 and F15 deployments, but this is the first I've heard of this deployment. It doesn't sound like there's any pretenses about ...

Not as hilarious as when The Gipper, did it:
"My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."

Re: Emergency Meeting Of The Russian Federation Council

It wasn't fake, unless Stratfor fell for it, too. There was never an announcement of a definite meeting. The news was reporting a Duma official who issued a communication to other members, instructing them to remain available to attend a meeting that may be imminent in the next few days. That did ha...

For some light humor, here's the World Socialist (actual socialist) Society's take on the same story:

US officials consider nuclear strikes against Russia

AP: US might deploy “counterforce” missiles in Europe to counter Russia

Saw this AP story in a couple publications just now. Sounds troubling that it's being considered, though I can't imagine we'd undertake that bold of a provocation.

Re: Obama Administration Releases New Nuclear Warhead Numbers

What is the actual technical definition of the of a nuclear weapon being "dismantled"? Would it be considered dismantled if, say, a single vital component were removed, and stored in a separate facility? Or, on the other end of the spectrum, would it require that it be completely disassembled, and a...

Re: EU Official, per Fars, Says Western Intel Indicates 4000 Saudi Border Troops Defect Anticipating Yemeni Ground War

I'll reiterate ATC's note about it being Iranian state media, and probably false or grossly exaggerated. "The Statue of Liberty is kaput" from Saving Private Ryan comes to mind. :) I'm not sure how much it indicates any imminent ground operation, but it seems like one of multiple tactics to forestal...

FYI, I've heard numbers from 40k up to the 70ks, but this is the first 'official' source that I've seen quoting higher than the original 40-ishK soldiers involved in Russia drills now. Sounds like it's been doubled: http://www.defensenews.com/story/defense/international/europe/2015/03/19/russia-expa...
