Advisor to the Iranian Parliament Speaker Hossein Amir Abdollahian lauded liberation of Quneitra province by the Syrian people and army, and stressed that the occupied Golan Heights can also be retaken.
"Congratulations to the Syrian people, Armed Forces and president on the liberation of Quneitra from the hands of the al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at or the Levant Liberation Board) terrorists and the Zionists," Amir Abdollahian wrote on his twitter page on Sunday.

"This victory means that it will be possible to liberate the occupied Golan Heights as a result of efforts by the Syrians," he underlined.

The Syrian army forces managed to capture Quneitra city in the Southwestern part of the country near the border with Israeli-occupied Golan Heights after a month of non-stop battle against terrorists, field sources reported on Saturday.

Russia cannot compel Iranian forces to quit Syria, Moscow's ambassador to Tel Aviv said on Monday, rebuffing Israel's long-standing demand that it should work to ensure their total withdrawal from the country.

Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov said Moscow could equally do nothing to prevent Israeli military strikes against Iranian forces in Syria, which along with Russia and Tehran-backed Lebanese militias are supporting President Bashar al-Assad in combating rebel fighters.

So, reading between the lines, it sounds like Russia just said they're not going to get involved if Israel and Iran get into a furball?

Iranian forces have withdrawn their heavy weapons in Syria to a distance of 85 km (53 miles) from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, TASS quoted a Russian envoy as saying on Wednesday, but Israel deemed the pullback inadequate.
Moscow has sought to reassure Israel by saying it wants only Syrian forces to deploy on or near the Syrian-held Golan. Israel, however, insists that forces controlled by Iran, its arch-foe, exit Syria entirely now the civil war there is ending.

“The Iranians withdrew and the Shi’ite formations are not there,” TASS news agency quoted Alexander Lavrentiev, President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy to Syria, as saying.

Lavrentiev said Iranian service personnel whom he described as advisors could be among Syrian army forces who remain closer to the Israeli border.

“But there are no units of heavy equipment and weapons that could pose a threat to Israel at a distance of 85 km from the line of demarcation”, Lavrentiev said.

An Israeli official deemed such a pullback insufficient.

“What we have laid down as a red line is military intervention and entrenchment by Iran in Syria, and not necessarily on our border,” Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi told Israel Radio, citing the longer-range threat posed by Iranian missiles or drones positioned in Syria.

“There’ll be no compromises nor concessions on this matter.”
