What Norad said is freaky... did an airspace violation occur?

I don't know anything about planes, but that looks like an awfully big footprint. :|

If so, that is not a good thing.
The release of atomic energy has not created a new problem. It has merely made more urgent the necessity of solving an existing one.

How do they indicate a SONIC BOOM? If there was aircraft flying in the area then I'd belive

What else would it be? Was the pilot very low to the ground?

Nuke going off? But what would cause the boom that loud

Meteor hitting the earth???

Something that large- really makes me feel that it was an upper atmospheric event. I can't think of anything else that could conceivably make such a noise other than a sonic boom besides a very large explosion, and there's been no evidence of that.
I might be wrong, but, if they plane is moving (Say southwest to northeast), isn't it constantly making a boom? Is there only ONE sonic boom that's produced? That likely makes no sense, but any physics professors out there, please fill me in.

No that's correct. "A" sonic boom is a pressure shockwave that travels with the plane.

It's not a one-time 'boom' when the aircraft surpasses the speed of sound. So the term is a little misleading.

If a training was taking place and they knew a sonic boom was going to happen they would have announced it to the public before to stop any panic just as they did for the missile test on the west coast and when they used to fly the shuttle over FL.
I think you make a good point. Unfortunately, we may never know what it was.

An anonymous individual says:
Fort Dix in Central NJ always gives out a week or so notice to the media and they spread the word so people aren't alarmed. I find it extra fishy that the military didn't mention anything until everyone started asking questions on 911 calls/radio stations.
