Re: Spokane, WA: Workers' radiation exposure halts nuke plant demolition

I almost literally live next door to Hanford. The plutonium finishing plant remains are a mere ten klicks from my front door. My very strong impression is that while the original worker claim of toxic off-gassing earlier this decade was legitimate, that the overall (if you'll excuse the pun) PR fall...

Re: What's that sound?

fascinating. i was unaware of that little bientot. Thanks for sharing it. My personal view is that anybody who seeks power probably should never be allowed to have it...But alas, the world does not care to reshuffle itself in line with my high-minded principles. Guess i'll just have to settle for op...

Re: Will the US and Russia go to war over Syria?

It DOES appear that the key mobilization window has sunset rather quickly. ...But with the two players snapping up airbases like corners claims on a checkerboard, and the abundance of so many different national actors + NGO's with some sort of footprint on the field and skin in the game...Well, that...

Re: Will the US and Russia go to war over Syria?

It's looking increasingly likely....But seems to be of a notably different character than it was with the USSR. In the first cold war it was two vast powers strong-arm polarizing the smaller ones between them. In this newest phase we've entered over the past five years of a three way lukewarm(?) war...

Re: DOD flies experimental hypersonic payload; claims success, technological advances

Yeah, i'm on the same page as most of the rest of ya...Pretty sure we've been in hard core development of a range of hypersonic vehicles, both manned and unmanned for some time now. I know back in 2009 I witnessed SOME sort of aircraft kick on it's civilian airspace lights on as it passed over Albuq...

Re: Russia Is Building ‘Doomsday Torpedo’ ????

Upshot: Wholeheartedly agree with most of your points. However, what I find odd is this leaking back into force-posture after...what? Five decades or so of it gathering dust in document graveyards? It seemed a incongruous non-sequitur, a odd jitter in the data of tactical force posture projection. I...

Re: Russian Senate Head to Discuss Nuclear Program With North, South Korea

That *IS* interesting. Getting Ivan and Mao to reach detente and then jointly push representatives to BOTH Korean players sounds an awful lot like they're worried about collateral escalation, and are basicly sidestepping US to try and negotiate a settlement directly. Smart. Of course, either/both co...
