Since Turkey is taking offensive action against a Russian ally, it's not that surprising. Fortunately, it also means that Turkey won't be able to invoke Article 5 of the NATO treaty. Maybe allowing Turkey to go on the offensive was part of the the plan all along, so they wouldn't be able to call on other NATO members for help. Turkey is doing a great job of pissing off both NATO and CSTO, which is quite an accomplishment, and a terrible strategy for long-term survival.

Report from a BBC correspondent that Syrian troops controlled by Assad will be moving into a large part of (previously) Kurdish-controlled Syria in the next couple of days to protect the Kurds from Turkey
